The Sad Tale of Lauren Wasser: A Model’s Battle for Awareness

When Lauren Wasser, a model from California, got menstrual toxic shock syndrome (mTSS) from wearing tampons, her life altered forever. At 24, the infection put her in a coma and caused her right leg to be cut off. Seven years later, she had to have another amputation, this time losing her left leg.

A Condition That Could Kill You

mTSS is an uncommon disorder that can be life-threatening and is caused by toxins from bacteria. Lauren had a very bad time. She had a 42-degree Celsius temperature, her kidneys and organs weren’t working right, and she had two heart attacks. There was only a 1% chance that she would live.

A Strong Supporter

Lauren has become a strong advocate for raising awareness about the risks of tampons, even though she has been through a lot of suffering. She sued the brand of tampons that made her sick and has been telling people about what happened to her. Lauren’s story shows how important it is to know the risks that come with common things.

Finding Strength and a Reason

Lauren’s road hasn’t been easy, and she’s had some dark times, like when she thought about killing herself. But she kept going because she thought about her young brother. As time went on, she discovered a bigger reason to speak up for the women who died or got sick because of mTSS.

Accepting a New Reality

Lauren has learnt to accept and even love her new life now. She sees her prosthetic legs as a form of art and has had them cast in gold. Lauren runs, hikes, and plays hoops, even though she has a lot of problems. She makes it apparent that you should take charge of your life and be who you are.

A Message of Strength

Lauren’s story inspires many people, and her message of strength and dedication speaks to people from all walks of life. She tells everyone to stop worrying about what other people think and to remember that they are already enough. Lauren’s courage and hope show how strong the human spirit is and how it can get through hard times [1].
